Gone

So, I just recently ordered a box set of all 5 seasons of Angel (TV's Angel). I got it because it was on sale for $50 and I am a huge fucking nerd and I really wanted to check out all the special features and commentaries. And never mind how I watched the show before I purchased these shiny, legal DVDs, just go about your business. It was good times. Lots of neat tidbits about the show.

But one thing really stood out.

There's a big difference between the Buffy special features and the Angel special features.

David Boreanaz is actually in the Angel special features.

Seven seasons of Buffy and where is SMG? Nowhere. There was one video of her practicing dance moves for OMWF.

David's all over the place. He's in a bunch of the featurettes and the interviews that they cut up for their behind the scenes stuff. He also did one of the episode commentaries for season 5.

Sarah, still M.I.A.

Everyone on both Buffy and Angel, all of the credited cast members and many of the recurring stars, are in the featurettes and interviews, if nothing else. Many of them also found the time to do commentaries.

Seth Green, Danny Strong, Tom Lenk, D.B. Woodside, James Marsters, and Nicholas Brendon all did a commentary track for Buffy.

Sarah, not even a glimpse in the featurettes and interviews. Excepting show footage.

Was she that tired of being Buffy? Was she that exhausted? Was she that busy with other things? Where was she that she couldn't give even a brief interview for the special features?

If I recall correctly, she had hoped to advance her movie career around the time Buffy ended. Was she too busy with Scooby Doo 2 to make time for anymore Buffy?

Maybe she was, how should I know?

Not long ago, the repackaged "Chosen Collection" box set of Buffy came out. There's a bonus disc featuring a new round table interview with cast and crew.

Guess who's not on it?

Among the assembled are Nicholas Brendon, Emma Caulfield, Charisma Carpenter, and Danny Strong.

I mean, I guess Sarah's a pretty busy person, but come on...

The second most absent person is probably Alyson Hannigan, but even she is in a few of the featurettes.

And it just came across as such a stark contrast with Angel. David's in nearly all of the featurettes and a commentary track. Between the two shows, he played Angel for eight years, stepped behind the camera to direct and act at the same time (just after knee surgery, no less), and still found time to talk to the fans behind the scenes of the fifth season of Angel (his eighth season as the character).

Was Sarah just so sick of Buffy that she couldn't stand to go anywhere near the thing? Even years later she can't make it to a round table feature?

Or is this just really, really piss poor planning from the studios or whomever is responsible for making the DVDs and inviting people to do features?

This came out pretty rant-y, but it bugs me. And also, I'd really love to know if there are reasons behind it. Does anyone have the scoop?

incoherent babble, rant and ramble, buffy stuff
