Reactions to the Twin Peaks "Pilot" episode

Aug 16, 2010 16:12

Right, so, I did another deal with poxydoo. If I watch Twin Peaks (30 episodes), he will watch the first two seasons of Buffy (34 episodes) and the rest if he enjoys it. So, I've just finished the "Pilot" episode of Twin Peaks and he's apparenlty halfway through 'Witch', last I heard.

I took notes in WordPad as I watched. Basically they're just my reactions to things as they happened.

A long shot of a power saw making sparks...oooookay.

And then a long shot of the names over a still background. We could've at least put those over the sparking saw.

This has got to be the dullest intro ever.

Written and Directed by David Lynch...why does that name sound familiar?

Oh frak me, the secretary!

"Not a word about this to anyone 'til you hear from me." // Let me guess...

WTF Andy crying?

The score is getting repetitive.

"Let's get out there and get those cheese-eaters where they live." // Cheese-eaters?

The café?/diner? is shot in a way that confuses me about the space.

Why is he so terribly afraid of her father? (Or is it even her father?)

Boy closes his locker and dances his way out of frame...wtf?

The girl with the red heels looks a bit smug about Laura's death. Hmm...

Bobby's an obvious suspect. I hope it's not him.

They're going for pretty heavy pathos for a character we don't even know yet.

"She was the one." // So, this dude was dating Laura? But Laura was dating Bobby...and Bobby was sneaking around with the gal from the diner...huh?

Holy crap, a woman with an eye-patch.

Wow, this guy with the tape recorder is really OCD.

That is the goofiest looking doctor I ever did see.

And he's crazy.

And he's stroking that tie in a...strange manner.

Can we murder the douchebag blonde guy?

Holy hell, Andy again. *eyeroll*

Agent Cooper looks kind of familiar. Do I know him from something?

Why did the girl want the Norwegians to leave?

Shit. Leo's insane.

"Who's the lady with the log?" // "We call her the log lady." // What??

So is Leo the guy who was supposed to be out of town, but wasn't? Was he setting up an alibi with that?

Why the hell are they barking?

Harry and the asian lady??

What just happened?

End notes.

So...I'm a bit confused about the genre. I can live with that though.

I really feel like they're asking for a lot of emotion in a pilot episode. It feels like they're trying to make me cry about Laura and I don't even know Laura.

Some of the things that I think they're trying to play for comedy just really aren't coming off very well.

Ultimately, I feel like they're trying to start too fast. There's not enough build up, IMHO. We need to establish what the status quo is before we go and break it.

At this point, I would describe myself as mildly interested. I'll keep on going in a bit and see where it takes me.

reviewish stuff
