Classic Who Reactions: Third Doctor Part 2

Oct 25, 2011 21:36

Four serials this time.

The Curse of Peladon
The Sea Devils
The Mutants
The Time Monster.

The Curse of Peladon

He's got it working? I thought he wasn't supposed to do that until 'The Three Doctors'.

This reminds me a bit of 'End of the World' with all of the aliens coming in.

Oh. Who would have guessed the Ice Warriors were a sort of greenish gray color.

Well lied, Doctor. Well lied, Jo.

Jo and King Peladon. Brown chicken, brown cow.

Dude, that thing looks like Alf.

What happens when the real delegate from Earth shows up?

"The foremost of the King's enemies is the chairman delegate from earth." // Well, of course he is.

Come on. Where's that Venusian Karate?

I think only the Third Doctor could get away with the singing. Play it convincingly, I mean. Maybe Eight or Ten, but Three really sells it in a way I can't picture the others doing.

Figured it would end like that.

The Sea Devils

"There you are, Jo. That's the Master's permanent residence from now on." // Uh-oh.

"It seems to be a rather interesting extra-terrestrial life form." // "It's only puppets you know. For children."

"Well, if I say so myself, I think that's a remarkably efficient piece of work." // *radio explodes*

Convenient swords are convenient.

"No doubt, Doctor, you're wondering why I sent for you." // "Your usual childish desire to gloat, perhaps?"

This one really isn't holding my attention very well.

It seems like Eleventh Hour Podcast was right about there being only one story they ever tell with the Silurians.

"The humans will never make peace with you!" // *BOOM*

The background music is weird. Can't tell if it's supposed to music or sound effects half of the time.

"You see, before you reactivated it, I reversed the polarity of the neutron flow." // Again?

The Mutants

"You're not going to stay here, Doctor?" // Seems like Jo says that quite a lot.

Well-bluffed, Jo.

Meh. Liked the evolving creatures, but the rest was just ... meh.

The Time Monster

"It's a time sensor." // "This is my timey wimey detector. Goes ding when there's stuff."

"It um - detects disturbances in the time field." // Can it boil an egg at thirty paces?

"We've done it. We've done it. We've done it." // Oh dear heavens, that music.

"Congratulations Brigadier. I think you've provided the explanation." // "Well, glad to be of service. What did I say?"

"At last, Cronos, the time has come. And I obey your call." // *phone rings*

Nice Lethbridge Stewart impression, Master.

"You're wrong, Sgt. Benton. *That* is the oldest trick in the book!"

"Lovey, I'm not men. I'm Stuart Hyde. Registered, card-carrying, paid-up coward."

Well... Those are quite nice.

"Can't think of anything to say?" // "How about, 'Curses. Foiled again!'?"

JoJoGrant.

"Wow. What a groovy dress."

Aaand Jo's traded legs for cleavage. ... Have I mentioned that this is a fantastic episode?

I'll probably do my next post after I've finished up the Third Doctor.

reviewish stuff, doctor whoville, fanboy moment
