Fun with money...

This month I did an itemized budget of all our expenses this month.  No big surprises, except that we spent $125 on eating out, including David's gas station junk food runs when he's at work.  We only spent $175 on groceries, so that put things in perspective a bit.  For groceries, I tend to buy stuff that comes together to make a meal, and stay away from convenience foods.  This is a fabulous plan, but when I don't cook or have leftovers, we don't have anything to take with us when we eat away from home or have anything for David to pack for work, so we do the Arby's or whatever run, and those add up.

So, I'm going to raise the grocery budget a bit and come up with things we could take with us when we're running around.  I have a recipe for granola bars somewhere around and we'll get more fruit, trail mix, lunch meat and stuff like that.   Lately I've been thinking about how I want to raise the quality of the things we eat, and after this month I know we can afford healthier groceries if we just cut the fast food. :)   I have a 20 pound turkey in the freezer, and if I cook that up it would be a lot of sandwich meat.  I'm feeling optimistic about my garden this year and have some lovely little spinach plants coming up, so that's something to look forward to.  It will be interesting to see how next month's budget turns out.

Anyhoo, at the moment I have oatmeal bread rising in the kitchen, and probably should get back to being useful.  I'm still sore when I walk, but I think that's from picking up Kate.  Lift with the legs, Rachel....
