I learned that among equals, posturing is even more king.
I'm on a committee for the Recreation Center. And there's a member who seems to be super-keen, does a huge amount. And I was wondering why (it wasn't necessarily work that most people would normally get excited about, I'd say) and then it hit me: with all this work done, she controlled the agenda. She defined what was done and what wasn't done, and could manufacture consent, so to speak.
She has no boss to frame her contribution. She is as active as she wants to be. And no one can stop her.
She is drunk on her own ambition. That's pretty sexy.
