Here's the ficlet I did for
widepretence. It's Harry Potter- Order of the Phoenix time period.
It had taken a long time, but Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody had finally stopped jumping at shadows. His invisibility cloak was already secure around him, but he tugged it closed as if that would help shield him.
He could hear the sounds of the Dursley's TV, the sound of their feet studiously avoiding Harry Potter's room, the sounds of the house settling as it slowly aged.
But there were no animal sounds.No dogs barking, no crickets chirping, no owls hooting. The muggles attributed it to the baking heat and oppression of that miserable summer, but Mad Eye knew it had darker implications. He was awake. He was constantly vigilant. He was there. Watching and waiting in the night.
