Today, some how, we got in a debate about if America was better or worse or what than Europe and the rest of the world, and I was very torn. On one hand, I wanted to be like yeah, Europeans do kick our ass at most everything, they have a healthier public, a stronger dollar, more culture, etc. But then I still have some allegence to America, I mean we did in 200 years what Europe took over 1000 years to do. And if it weren't for a certain village idiot moving into a certain house devoid of color, we'd still be on top in the money arena. But this led to her, Mmme. Lambert, my teacher, to say something along the lines of "There should be no borders, peace and all", basically the song Imagine (the subject). But I hate that. If we were all friendly, nothing would get done. For one..militaristically. It took us 800 years to go from a cannon ball to a shell (cannon balls get lobbed, shells get shot), but in the 40 years of the cold war, we went from a 2 ton block of a bomb that we had to drop and run like hell and hope it hits, to a 75 lb missile that we can launch from Hawaii and decide to hit the left or right side of the uprights of the north or south endzone in Soldiers Field. And its not just military (though that is nessicariy, even if countries were at peace, there are terrorists). Take for instance food. The quality standards of US beef went up considerably after it became practicle that we would be competeing with Europeans. Or cars-Toyota vs. Ford. Or power-US power plant output increases and prices go down after some towns link up with the Canadian grid. Basically-competition breeds advancement (who needs to run faster if they're the fastest). So we don't need peace, we need a little war or something, with a good country, or maybe just a real sporting competion would do. I've been distracting one to many times, but I think you get my point. Post if you disagree or have questions
