More Books.

Once again, we take a look at the comings and goings of Matt's reading habits. Part of me is interested in going back to recording the children's books I read as well. Willow's Pre-K teacher has been making us keep a journal of all the books we read to her, as well as the amount of time spent on each one. And in the few weeks we've been doing it, I am amazed at how much it looks like on paper, while simultaneously feeling insufficient in real-life. Hmm. Something to ponder.

Anyway, on to the list of books read so far in 2010:

  • T is for Trespass, by Sue Grafton.
  • Goliath, by Steve Alten.
  • Going Postal, by Terry Pratchett.
  • Victory of Eagles, by Naomi Novik
  • Pacific Vortex, by Clive Cussler

    2 new additions this time.

Book 5 of the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. The world is amazing, and the action is well written. The events of this book follow very organically from the previous books, and so it would feel artificial if it had happened any other way, but that is not to say that I was overly enamored with the plot or its course in this book. All in all, though, I was pleased, and would still definitely recommend the entirety of the series. There's a sixth book in the works.

Clive Cussler is, well, Clive Cussler. Pacific Vortex was apparently the first Dirk Pitt novel written, though by no stretch the first one published. There's a few continuity problems - but after close to 20 novels (as I said last time re: Sue Grafton) I refuse to complain. Dirk Pitt stories are always an entertaining way to spend a few hours, and Dirk's little tet-a-tet's with Al Giordano always amuse, as well as their attitudes towards antagonists.

Up next - not yet the much anticipated Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, but the already-checked-out-of-the-library-and-due-back-in-2-weeks-1100-page-monster The Knife of Dreams, by Robert Jordan. Think I'll get it read by the due date? Me neither. But I have to at least try.

That said, after rushing out the door this morning - three hours later than hoped - I forgot to grab a book anyway. So, nothing to read today. I guess lunch will be short.

    No Worries,
    Matt
