October log

-Adam and Amanda's wedding was on October 15th. Two nights before was Adam's bachelor party. Got together with Adam of course, and then Vik, Demo, Mikhail, Derek, Tim, Josh, and Jeff. We went to Hooter's for dinner, and then to Dave and Buster's for some drinks and arcade games. It was a lot of fun. They went to the strip joint later, but I bailed out of that one. Later that night, headed up to the Kerry Piper to visit for a little with CB, Lee, and Jess.

Friday night was the rehearsal and dinner. Went to dinner at Maggiano's in Oak Brook, and had an Italian feast. Got to mingle with the families and stuff. And then they handed out gifts to the wedding party. They got me Chicago Blackhawks tickets for the October 29th game against the Red Wings. (the Haks ended up losing 4-3, but it was a good game nonetheless, especially when the kiss cam came up on Chelios and Shanahan, in which Shanny laughed and Chelly got pissed....classic)

Saturday was the wedding. It was a bit windy, but otherwise a perfect day for an outdoor wedding. And I have to admit with all modesty aside, I was a stud in my tux. And the reception was a blast. Got to visit with so many people from the past and present. Hedgy and Renee, Lee, Chris, Jess, Josh and Sara, Charlie freakin' Hall, Kevin Earll, Gail, Jeff, my bro, Vik, Melissa, Kelly, Erin, Anna, Tim and Laurie, Derek, etc....People from high school and college all together in the same room for one night...pretty cool. After the reception started dying down, we went back to the Holiday Inn and a bunch of us hung out in the lobby bar before calling it a night.

Other things of note in October:

- a couple visits to CMU. Going to fellowship again on Thursday, hangin' at Jeff's, playing Cranium with Julee and Megan, Killer and the Sandlot at Jacki Paul's, playing pool and chatting at Maury's with Lindz, Aubs, Jeff, and Todd, lunch with Jeremy, and getting to see Mark H. and Kristy W., and stuff like that.

- Pigeon, MI with Steve and Kyle to fix all our songs that got scrambled by an ill-fated hard drive. It's ok though, the album is being mixed this weekend and should be out by Christmas time.

-The Chicago White Sox. Now here's my comment. This team was an underdog. And I almost always gravitate toward underdogs in professional sports. Now I have already embraced what being humble truly is by being a fan of the Chicago Cubs. But to cheer for the South siders might seem strange, but again, it's me taking away my pride, and being proud of a team that brings respect back to Chicago sports as a whole. They won the world series and they deserved it. Red Sox and now the White Sox...That has to mean the Cubs in '06, right?

-Finally started getting involved with CCC and the music ministry. I've met a lot of new people over the past month, and have been hanging out a lot more than just Sundays and small group. It's been nice.

-Halloween weekend: Saw Brian Prunty play an open mic at the Ground Level Cafe, then went out with Kimberly, Shelly, and Breanne to Oswego to watch Amityville Horror in an old barn with a makeshift theatre. Then went on a walk through the woods just for kicks. Also watching October Sky at Shelly's later on Saturday night with some cool cats.

-The Blackhawks game with Adam. I can't stress enough how happy I am to have hockey back.

-Wednesday movie nights with Melissa and Adam

-Elizabethtown with Gail and Melissa

-My introduction to Harry Potter movies. I've enjoyed them quite more than I thought I would. I think Prisoner of Azcaban is my favorite so far.

-I've read a ton of books this past month or so too: Blue Like Jazz, Searching for God Knows What, and Through Painted Deserts all by Don Miller (very good books), Mere Christianity, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Velvet Elvis, Survivor, Generation X, Flashbang, Perspectives, and A Celebration of Discipline. Currently, I'm reading Catch-22 and The Screwtape Letters.

-My next door neighbor passed away. He was in his late 50's or early 60's, I'm not sure, and I regret not getting to know him better, because my parents really liked him. A single guy, former history teacher, and real outdoor buff. Kind of like our own Wilson. Ok, not really at all. But it was truly tragic. He had just apparently gone to the doctor two weeks before his death, and had gotten a clean bill of health. He died in his basement while exercising on his bike. Really sad.

-My interview at the beginning of the month with DEQ. I thought I had a good one, despite it being a committee interview with 3 people (avoid these at all costs) and an impromptu essay on implementing strategies to solve a modern environmental problem. But they never called me, so I guess there's something better out there. The night before I got to visit Brad and Meg's new apt. and see them, as well as Cindy. Then headed to Applebee's and hung with Brad, Erik, Trevor, and some other blokes for a while before calling it one.

-Josh and Kate visiting Naperville. Got Portillo's for lunch and then went downtown to walk around. Went to Anderson's, Nut and Candy Shanty, and Sharper Image, and spent a large portion of the day around the riverwalk. Fun times.

I also went to Grand Rapids this past weekend, but I'll update that later, along with some recent life observations.

Until next time...
