just a mid-summer recap

Crazy couple of weeks...

2 weekends ago, I checked out MPCC with Jeff H. and saw my friend Courtney, who I haven't run into in probably almost a year...twas cool. I also ran into Suzie and she mentioned that a bunch of people were heading to Bay City later in the evening for the fireworks...so after the service, we headed to Wendy's for lunch with Lee, Chris, J-wood, and Jess.

Later that night, I decided I was going to check out this Bay City and their colorful explosion show...so we took a couple cars and headed out. Met a bunch of new people and hung with some familiar ducks: Dave W., Natalie, Patricia, Stacie B., Randi, Suzy, Rachel, Colleen, and Ben E. The drive there was nuts, I didn't realize everybody and their mother came to see these fireworks. But it was cool, we played some catch and hung out on a baseball diamond, and then got to see them up close...in fact we were so close, all the crap and ashes were literally raining down on us.

Monday the 4th was a day off for me so I take advantage of that and do what any graduated college student still in Mt. Pleasant does on a summer day: I went fishing.

Headed out with Jeff and Dale, and we got some bullheads, and then hit a nice hole on the Chip at Mill Pond Park, and we caught four largemouths that were about a foot each. Good day fer fishin', I reckon.

Thursday, Todd came up. After service, we headed to Doozies and then to Las to get harassed by over-zealous waiter. "Just give me back 14." "That's a 94 cent tip!" Hysterical.

This past weekend was cool too....Saturday, I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Actually, wasn't feeling sick for some of the day, but then ended up just being lazy for the rest of it. Slept in till about 12:30 and just read and played videogames all day and all night. Didn't even get dressed until about 10 at night, when I went over to Aaron and Kati's new home...we watched Get Shorty....I guess I've never gone on my Get Shorty and Be Cool rant, but I'd just like to say now that Get Shorty is an awesome movie, and Be Cool was a bad movie. It is not a worthy sequel.

Sunday, headed to church, and then went to Wendy's with Aaron, Kati, Jeff, and Paul Carlson, back from London. Told tragic yet funny pet stories and got to catch up with Paul's visit to London for the semester. Then, began.....the Recreational Triathalon.

Round 1: Golfing. We played 9 holes over at the course by the Holiday Inn. Such a good time, even though I sucked a lot.

Round 2: Softball. Played some ball with the co-ed team.

Round 3: Fishing. Me and Jeff headed back to Mill Pond. Found a spot where the rock bass get jiggy with it, and caught a couple huge ones. Also caught a couple hilarious pictures with our catches.

This week, work has been cool. I've really started to become good friends with the people I work with. We've been going out to lunch all the time, and hanging out after work most of the weekdays. It sucks that I only have about 3 more weeks of this job, before I have to go back to Illinois.

Tuesday, Played some volleyball with Dan and Erin and some of the people from church at Deerfield. And then we decided to.....GASP....go fishing. (Yeah, I'm definitely getting my money's worth out of this 40 dollar out-of-state license). I caught a baby sucker. And accidentally caught a frog. It sucked.

Wednesday was softball. It sucked though, we played a really good team, and we only had 8 people...which means we played without a catcher or a shortstop. How you ask? I'm not really sure. I was pitching but had to cover home plate and sometimes, thrid..Jason covered third and sometimes short..and Chad covered second, and sometimes center field. Dan came along and seemed to enjoy himself...besides being handed a couple L's, it was fun.

Yesterday, myself, Erin and Dr. McNaught headed out to the field to put in two new auto-samplers. That was a ridiculous amount of work to find makeshift rigging for everything to get those things positioned right. Got to talk a lot with Scott though about job ideas, what he thinks is causing the lake to be turbid, and when Pearl Jam just started getting boring. It was fun except for the humidity, in which for the first time in my life, I actually sweated all the water out of my body.

Later that night, we went back to Deerfield at dusk. It was so pretty and tranquil. The moon was just shining over all the trees and reflecting off the still water. Not a person in sight, just the outdoors and us. We saw a really crazy bird too, that was just soaring over us and the water for a while, it wasn't flapping its wings for like a good 5 minutes. We couldn't clearly identify it, but my scientific guess would be a pterodactyl.

Finished Acts last night.

Today, just relaxing...heading up to Traverse City tonight with Mark Holsworth and Brad Davis. And then meeting Jeremy, Danny, and Sierra up there to hang for the weekend...I'm pumped.
