the mike versus the river

I'm feeling pretty good these days....I guess the right amount of the right chemicals are flowing and mixing..

Last Thursday evening, me and Jeff H. headed to Veit's Woods and Mill Pond to do some fishing on the Chip. Veit's was completely unsuccessful but Mill Pond turned out ok. Caught a few small bass between the two of us and it was nice to just feel "away" from the fast days. After that, I headed over to Erin, Clay, and Dan's to watch the heartbreaking game 7, but still had fun goofing around with them...they're a bunch of cool cubes.

Friday, headed home for the weekend. Got caught in the Gary traffic as usual, which sucks when it's like 100 degrees out and your a/c is broke, the smell of Indiana suffocates your nostrils, and your in standstill traffic, all while listening helplessly to the anguish in ron santo's voice as the cubs get annhilated by the white sox for the first game of the cross-town series....and the embarassment of having ron santo as your voice of your chicago cubs.

But, finally made it home..It was a nice weekend...hung out with adam that night, saturday, went shopping with the parents and then got some dinner at friday's with adam and amanda. Sunday me and my parents checked out Community Christian Church, and it was pretty awesome...and they liked it a lot too. I plan on plugging into that fellowship when I get home for good in august. Went to get my tuxedo fitted. Then had some fun watching the Cubs/Sox game with Adam and Dave, and throwing the insults back and forth....and watching Mark Prior return from the DL to throw a one-hit game against the team with the best record in baseball.....and the bullpen saving the 2-0 shutout.

Then went and played catch with Dave and some of his friends, before heading back on the road. I got to take my mom's Sable back and it was so nice having a reliable car with some sweet a/c.

Monday softball was a success....my new found pitching role continued to thrive as we won both games...though the outfield certainly made me look better than i was.

Tuesday, played some beach volleyball at Island Park with the MWRC'ers.....and Josh Walker moved in....It's gonna be sweet living with him for the last month.

Wednesday, went to go see War of the Worlds with Brad, Jeff, and Steve. Didn't really like it. I think I've decided that I'm not really a big Spielberg fan.

Thursday, Todd and Justin came up, and we all went to Las for dinner...then hit up the video store and meijer, and then came back to watch shaun of the dead. Chatted with Aubs the rest of the night and made her some sweet cd's for her drive up north.

Friday evening, went fishing again, this time to Deerfield Park, before returning to the familiar Mill Pond fishing hole. With only a baby bluegill, I wasn't very successful, but Jeff caught a couple bullheads, a couple bluegill, and a couple bass. Not too shabby.

And today.....I finally broke down and went tubing on the mighty Chippewa River with CB, Lee, and some of his friends. I can't honestly say I enjoyed it....some parts were cool and relaxing....but being the only sober one + girls constantly freaking out from spiders, seaweed, etc... + bad sunburn + sharp rock riverbeds + getting 14.....yes 14 leaches on me = bad first tubing experience. But....ya win some and ya lose some.

Just got back from B-dubbs with the same people...just hung out for a little while, had a pop and some wings...the rest of them ended up heading to some kegger around here.....I don't know, I guess I've just really changed. I got asked so many times today why I wasn't drinking. I usually just say "I just don't, or just don't feel like it"...to which most people reply, "why not, are you driving?" As if that can be the only rational explanation for me not getting wasted or talking about how much and what kind of drink I drank everytime I had a good time doing something. My answer is that I just don't have a desire for it anymore, and I want my life to be a walk in where my priorities lie. It's not that I judge anyone for drinking or refrain from being around it, but it gets kind of annoying when different people constantly ask and then can't understand my reasoning. I guess it's their loss that they can't understand it, not mine.

Don't have any 4th of July plans yet....hopefully something will come up.

Big gulps eh?

Welp.....see ya later.
