Stop! Restart!

After getting several months in to my rewrite of the Sevemens d20 4ed Sourcebook I've made a huge decision. I've scrapped the past 25 years of work done on the D&D setting. The existing games that are currently running won't change and will continue to shape and change the old setting. With all of the work I have already put into I may finish the old rewrite at some point down the road. The new edition, though, is going backwards. To understand I have to give a little history, not of how it came it came to be but the history of the world.

The World of Sevemens
In the beginning the world was populated by the gods. The dragons and other first races carved up the land in a war for their god's pleasure. The gods soon grew bored with the races they had created and moved on to other distractions. The dragons grew bored of the waring as well and seemed to disappear. The world changed and settled, new races sprang up and some showed that they were destined for greatness.
The greatest of these, the Erador, who were the  predecessors of the human race, began to show dominance. Their mastery of magic from almost every source is still unmatched, and they built an unrivaled kingdom. After several generations their glory caught the eyes of several new gods who felt the Erador were disrespecting the dieties with their advanced magics. The coming war was known as The Second Flight; new species of dragons ravaged the land and destroyed many kingdoms. The Erador were the ultimate targets of these new dragons and in their arrogance, they started to fall. Several elder warlocks and battlemasters made the choice to unleash the strongest magics they had discovered. The backlash from the spells the Erador cast was their destruction, all that remained was a barren wasteland in which no magic would ever work again. The damage was also felt by the dragons and many of their number were wiped out, the few who remained disappeared much like their cousins did a generation ago.
Again the world moved on from the destruction. The race of man was born and went on to show it's dominance over the other races. Becoming even more arrogant then their fore fathers, they tapped in to magics that the world had long forgotten. They had found the dragons, and the dragons were not happy to be disturbed from their rest. The Third Flight took place almost a thousand years after the last. This time dragons of every species swept over the land laying waste. It wasn't a war as in the past, it was destruction plain and simple. For five years the dragons laid waste to the civilizations that had sprung up, almost as if they were being directed by some outside force. Then, just as they had appeared, they vanished again. It was five years to the day when the dragons flew off leaving the world in disarray.

After the Dawn the world woke to a new day. No great kingdoms remained, only settlements and small cities survived. Almost all of the worlds population had been killed off in that time. For the next 290 years the races of Sevemens settled and rebuilt their homes and their kingdoms. It wasn't peace but it was better then they had though possible.

For 25 years players have shaped the world that I created. More of its history was revealed as were the hidden realms. It seemed to grow and live based on what these players chose to do. As characters grew stronger they became the rulers of the kingdoms they had helped to build or defend. They decided the direction the world went, and it worked well.

Now we are given a new version of the rules I have made a bold decision. The rewrite is gone, players will not adventure in a world 315 years After the Dawn. Much like those first players did with their characters the players in the new version will be blazing trails and building the world. I would like to present The World of Sevemens: After the Dawn! I have decided that the Sevemens Campaign Setting will be doing a reset, going back to a time when the world was raw and in turmoil.
We are going to open a world to players that has previously only been heard about in stories and bard's tales. To quote the 4th edition, "Points of light in the dark," and that is exactly what Sevemens was at the time.

Now that all of that is out of the way we have had to revise our release schedule. I do still hope to have the setting sourcebook out for the release of D&D 4th Ed. but it will at least arrive in time for the 25th anniversary of Sevemens. Here is a simple list of the sourcebooks that will be coming and if the response is good I may even finish the scrapped book.
  • The World of Sevemens: After the Dawn Campaign Setting
  • The World of Sevemens: The Fey Realms
  • The World of Sevemens: The Realms Below
  • The World of Sevemens: The Shadowfen
  • Gods, Relics & Rituals of Sevemens
  • Dragon Lore
  • Prestige, Professions & Beyond
  • The Sevemens Creature Compendium
Finally it has been decided that to keep the world constantly growing we will also expand our online world information. We are going to allow the fans and players in our world to decide where it is going and help it grow.

You can find more as I update the website this weekend, thanks for the support.
