Woohoo!!!!
We have created a gamer.
Today was Worldwide D&D Game Day and Prax and I made our plans in secret. My son likes playing games but he likes video games the most. He is a little WoW junkie on top of all that. I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons since I was about my sons age. We talked about the game today while we were out running our errands and it almost seemed a lost cause. We stopped at our friendly local game store to see what was new, to talk about them carrying some of our games, and to see what was going on for WWDDGD.
My son got to look at some of the D&D books and we tried to explain the ways that D&D was better then WoW. He still wasn't buying it even after watching another group play for a few minutes.
They had short dungeon sessions running all day but only two slots left for the very last game of the day 7:30 - 9:30. We talked to my boy to see if he would like to watch while Prax and I played. He said sure, so off we went to finish up our errands.
When we got home he pulled out my Player's Handbook to look at the races and classes. He asked a lot of questions and seemed to be getting interested.
Back to our friendly local game store! We met our DM and the five players and one little spectator all sat down to thrash some monsters. We were all handed our WWDDGD boxes that contained a character sheet, mini, pencil and d20. We then leaped into the game. It was so good to be able to be a player again and we had a good group of players that all handled their roles well. It was a lot of fun. About 30 minutes in my son leaned over to Prax, he was helping her with her die rolls, and said, "This is really awesome."
SCORE!!! By the time we got home my son had pretty much decided that we are going to be playing D&D because it is cool. Well he may be a nerd in training but he is absolutely a gamer just like his Dad. I'm so damn proud.
