So I ran into the landlord before the cable company came out and we a nice long conversation about things. First thing he told me about the cable was that one of the tenants did call them to complain that they no longer had cable. He told them that to his knowledge only one tenant had cable so if they wanted it they could call comcast. It would seem that they really like us as tenants, were clean and relatively quiet. He said if we have any more problems to let them know and to send them an email to give them the specifics of the Comcast vist.
Let me state for the record that "I HATE COMCAST AND I HATE THAT THEY ARE THE ONLY CHOICE FOR US!!!"
There that's out of the way.
Thursday I wait all day with no internet for the tech to come, I stayed off the phone to make sure I wouldn't miss thier call, and I kept checking to make sure the buildings front door was unlocked every 15 minutes. Our apointment was for 1pm on Thursday.
At 2pm I call
mdrf.prax to let her know that they haven't come yet (no real surprise). She calls comcast, They had the apointment scheduled for Wednesday and no one answered the phone when they called. Seems not only did they have the wrong day but the wrong phone number.
She gives them hell on the phone and says someone needs to come out now and fix this, finally they say someone will be here by 5:30. She verifies that they have MY phone number and relates all of this to me.
6pm rolls around and I call Prax back to let her know still no tech, no call, nothing. She calls comcast back and specifies that she needs to talk to the supervisor. After a back and forth she is told that someone was here at 3:30 and no one can come out tonight but they will have a supervisor call her by 8:30. Now I assure you that no one was here at all that day.
Prax gets home and we talk abou it ad nauseum. We decide that at 8:35 I get to call and try my luck with them. At 8pm I know we are not getting a phone call and start to get antsy. At 8:30 I'm literally chomping at the bit. At 8:31 the phone rings (damnit, I was looking forward to making that call) and she answers it. She talks to the supervisor and brings up everything that we had talked about. Come to find out that no matter what our line should not be split and they are going to give us a credit for every day we didn't have access. I think I heard him sputter when she said all but two weeks for the past two months. He tells her that a tech will be out in the morning and everything will be taken care of, even if they have to run a new line for us. They verify the phone numbers again and he apologizes.
Fast forward to the next morning 8:30am.
My phone rings, it's the tech, I let him in and explained everything that has happened. He went right outside to the line and touched it. Now I can accept that someone moves into an apartment and there is cable line, they hook it up and "hey we've got cable". But this shit is mindblowing.
The tech started laughing when the line from upstairs fell out of the splitter. The dude upstairs simply put a splitter on our line, hooked us up, then stripped his line and stuck the bare wire into the splitter.
Well the tech removed the splitter and hooked us back up then cut the line running up the wall (several times) to the upstairs splitter. He took that splitter then tied off the lines to the two upstairs apartments.
After coming in and going over everything with me he asked what the apartment number was for upstairs. I told him and he got on his phone. He called dispatch so someone would come out and put a lock box on our line then reported that my neighbors in apt ** were stealing cable. Tech tells me what to do if anything happens before they put in the lock box and leaves.
WOOOHOOO!!! I hate fucking leeches, as many of you may know. To me there is nothing worse then someone who just takes from others (i.e. Mr. Ren Pyrate or maybe that should be y.e.).
Thought this story was over didn't you...
So I sit down and give Prax a ring and fill her in. The upstairs comes in and is muching about upstairs. About 15 minutes later I hear crunching leaves down in the yard. I goto the bedroom and open the window, where I notice the dude upstairs sneaking (yes he was actually crowched and tip toeing) up the fire escape to his window. I realize I must have startled him and scared him off. I look down at the cable line and sure enough he has pulled another line over to where ours is.
Well he hasn't been back out there yet, maybe he has learned his lesson and at some point I'm gonna go remove that new line as well. It just makes you wonder if someone would go through that much trouble to steal cable what else might they be willing to do to steal, kinda like saying if someone goes through that much trouble to steal a website design . . .
