more cat-dom

Do any of you who are owned by cats have a “side-winder” in your house? Bud hadn’t done it for months (at least) but a memory just popped into my head and made me smile.

He (and Oakley and Nefi too, years ago) would be near the couch, and suddenly get that possessed, hyper-cat look in their eye. Then they’d let out a little “rrrrp” or two, throw themselves on the floor, and using claws in the side of the couch, pull themselves sideways along the floor from one end of the couch to the other, as far as they could go before a wall would stop them. (You can imagine the static in winter time.)

Side-winding. :) If you’ve never seen it, then I have confirmation that mine were a little nuttier than most. Or, “unique.” Yes, they were all truly unique, that’s for sure.

I miss that little hyper “rrrrp” too - the one that warned of a coming stampede of heavy paws across the floor, or announced that falling leaves were driving Bud crazy, or that he was about to smack one of his sisters on the head.

I’ve been with felines so long that I’m having a hard time resisting the urge to head off to the Humane Society and adopt a couple. Lots of reasons I’m waiting - and I have to keep repeating them. Eden is too young - 7 months old - I think I’d rather wait until we pass the tail-pulling stage - not to mention I don’t have the time it takes to care for a new kitty with a baby in the house. Plus it’s too soon after Bud and I don’t want to “replace him” yet. One more thing I’d feel guilty about.

But the empty spaces in the house where the “cat stuff” used to be are gnawing at me.
