Wow, it's been a pretty busy past couple of weeks!
Life is bubbling along, with lots of work and more work. But at the same time, I've been getting out and playing just as hard.
Two weeks ago Rosemary and I went to Philly for a couple of days. It was my first trip back since spending some 10-odd days there in June (which I will blog about, I swear!). Six weeks away is a bit too long, so it was good to get back and see the family. Though next time we have to see both families more. Tough to pack everything in with just two days, and while we'd planned to be home more, it just didn't work out.
The trick is to be available during the day and early evening. All four parents are seniors and retired. Rosemary's mom and dad keep busy, and mine tend to be home a lot. Mine are in bed by 9 most of the time, so nights are free. We got in Thursday afternoon, and after lunch we split up and spent time with our parents. For me that was sitting in the house catching up on TV, politics (lots of Al Sharpton's show on MSNBC) and family news.
We try to find some nightlife whenever we're in town, since Connecticut just can't compare to Philly. After an impromptu hangout with Beth and Dennis at
Maggie's Waterfront Cafe in Northeast Philly, we headed downtown to check out our friend Sara's karaoke at the gay sports bar. (Yes, a gay sports bar; it's called
Tabu and is in Philly's Gayborhood.) Philly Black Pride was in that week, so she was specializing in Philly R&B artists. It was a welcome break from the usual Lady Gaga and showtunes on other night's I've been there. The best part of the night was when one super-muscled guy took us all to church on John Legend's "Cloud Nine," followed by another guy doing quite well on Luther Vandross' "A House Is Not A Home." Two tough songs.
Friday was very busy. Rosemary and I took my parents to see Cowboys and Aliens. It was pretty good, and my parents totally didn't expect it. The movie had the vibe of a fan film meeting a big Hollywood production, and it was good to see Harrison Ford salvage some of his professional dignity by being non-shitty in a not-shitty movie. And Daniel Craig does what he does while Olivia Wilde looks way too thin yet still pretty.
After the movie we went to Collingswood, NJ to see our friends Charlotte and Damon, and their weeks-old baby Julian. There is nothing in the world like a fresh-born baby. So tiny and precious! We had a tasty little lunch, and their dog kept begging from me, his front paws on my lap and staring with those silly eyes. He also is adjusting to the attention shift toward the baby, as you can see here in this photo.
But the biggest part of the trip was a glorious return to Sex Dwarf after more than 1 1/2 years. Seeing old friends, making those old times come alive again. Meeting new folks, dancing in lesbians' row, and wreaking havoc with the Breast Friends. More on that to come.
