Torrington turns a corner

You readers of this here blog have seen quite a bit about Torrington - the mill town trying to revitalize itself as an art deco-covered hotbed of artists and industry at the foot of the Berkshires.

The center of this new Torrington heart and soul is my buddy Julia, proprietress of Brazen Betties and kickstarter of several fun events in downtown. And since I've been going there, I've met more and more people. Half of my adventures these days are connected to Torrington, or to people I've met through the place and Julia.

Torrington had a momentous night on April 1, the time a town truly turns a corner in awesomeness. For the first time ever, Torrington had cool shit happening in several places all at the same time.

Really. My friend Keith was putting on a showcase of musicians and his new play Crookie Cookie, a singer-songwriter festival, and a surf rock night. All within two blocks in downtown. Rosemary and I caught the play and the surf rock -- complete with a go-go dancing contest. Saw a bunch of folks, heard some kick-ass music, danced about, ate delicious goodies from Rocket Fine Street Food, and stayed out way too late for beers at Snapper Magee's.

Another great night in Torrington, but a night unlike any other. Looking forward to more soon.
