It's been another parade of friends. Believe it or not, these days Rosemary and I are going out about as much as we did in Philadelphia.
Monday last week: We met up with Danielle and Tanya for sushi in Highland Park, NJ, on our way back to Connecticut. Very good food, followed by a trip through the liquor emporium that is the Rite Aid. I picked up some pomegranate wine from Sensei and a pinot grigio from Ecco Domani. We repaired to their place and hung out for awhile watching the Canadiens beat the Penguins. Rosemary finally met their pet sugar glider, which crawled on her for a little bit before leaping away.
Friday: Rosemary and I did dinner at Shish Kebab House in West Hartford Center, grabbed some drinks at McLadden's Irish Pub across the street and watching the Flyers already be 3-0 in Game 7, the to see them knock in a pair of goals. We rushed home and watched the rest of the game, that beautiful comeback to destroy the Bruins. Versus cut to a boy in his Bruins gear, crying his eyes out. Keep cryin', kid!
Saturday: Rosemary and I took a looooong walk through West Hartford, eventually coming to Fairview Cemetery. It's full of many people who were both in the 19th century or died in it, and a bunch of elaborate memorials. Later that night I met up with our friend Liz, whom we saw a few weeks ago at McLadden's, for dancing at Shish Lounge. Really danced our asses off, my legs were crazy sore :)
Sunday: Headed out to Torrington to Brazen Betties and for the art show wrap party. It's crazy around there right now because a movie is being shot in the hotel that houses the store. It's
"The Innkeepers" with Kelly McGillis (yes, the "Top Gun" Kelly McGillis) and Sara Paxton. They were filming a scene right outside Julia's door! We then hung out at the party for a while, meeting some new people and picking up the art I bought. We didn't get to stay for when the bands started, since we headed down to Red Light Burlesque in New Haven. Another fun show down there, with new routines by Lily La Vamp (mmm, more Lady Gaga) and Nikki Le Villain did all belly dancing and brought out her snake.
Check out these photos courtesy of Billy Raayn. And we hung out with LL, Michelle and Eric too - it's getting great to go someplace and know people there. We also met Katie of the awesome
CT Scenic blog. Oh, and we got to watch the Phillies cap an undefeated weekend of sports for the city.
Monday: Impromptu barbecue is the best kind of barbecue. We hung out at Bonnie and Russell's place down the street from us in the west end of Hartford, and met their friends Anthony and Kayla. Lots of meat and drink - and Anthony broke out the Oban scotch. Mmmm, scotchy-scotch-scotch.
Future: Creative Cocktail Hour at Real Art Ways, featuring gay glam band Gene Dante and the Future Starlets. I may get to see Tish this week, too, while Rosemary is back in Philly beginning Wednesday. And then I'm back to Philly on Saturday for a birthday party, maybe seeing Sara at karaoke on Sunday.
But for now, off to retire for the evening and spend that quality time with Rosemary before waking up to take her to the train station early tomorrow morning.
Then back to Philly
