The
Tim Burton exhibit at MoMA was pretty cool, all in all.
The place was totally overrun by a collection of art geeks, nerds, Johnny Depp-lusting teenagers and Europeans, but somehow Rosemary and I persevered as a couple of well-adjusted nerds.
The exhibit was a cool collection of Burton stuff from as early as age 12, through all his sketches and Disney work to character notes, designs, props and costumes from all his movies. What an odd collection of monsters and caricatures both comic and grotesque.
And while I'll agree with "South Park" that Burton hasn't done anything original in quite some time and needs to just have sex with Johnny Depp already ("Alice in Wonderland"? Snore.), "Batman" and "Beetlejuice" made me love movies as a child, and "Ed Wood" made me love them as an adult. It also was great to see an "Edward Scissorhands" cookie machine up close.
Mmmm, nerds.
Oh, and walking around New York as fun too. As usual, I met only Europeans. I was stopped in the street as some guy asked me about my
Roger Federer 2009 US Open jacket.
We also saw a
Maybach outside the MoMA - what an exhorbitant car, holy jeez!
It was nice to walk around the Central Park South area again, see some of the old places I got to know doing weekends at ABC. Those were fun times.
