And we're back!
Where have I been? It's more like, where haven't I been?
I hope everyone had a good Valentine's Day, friends both coupled (or tripled!) and singled. After work I came home with some surprise flowers* and a card with trannies**. I made the
Christmas meatloaf, put on a mix CD that Rosemary made me for our first V-Day together back in 2004, and sat us down to wine and candlelight. Follow that up with some snuggles on the couch, and BAM! I could watch the NBA All-Star Game and Winter Olympics to my heart's content :P
This past week has been pretty action-packed. I went back to Philly for a solo mission Monday night and was greeted by more snow to top off the other 3 feet. I haven't seen that much snow there in years! The piles of it in the streets, the cowboy driving and parking tactics, the hostile guarding of parking spaces ...
Tuesday I saw an old co-worker for lunch, then an early dinner with
rockwrok at
National Mechanics. After all those years yelling at each other over loud music at Sex Dwarf, it sure was nice to meet in the straight world, eat veggie burgers, climb over snow hills and rumble through unplowed South Philly streets.
Wednesday I got my teeth cleaned, and set up a future appointment for some sealants. For the first time, someone noticed that the root was missing from my upper right incisor. I hit that tooth running into a metal pole when I was 10, and the dentists wager the root shriveled and died from the impact. But somehow the tooth isn't dead. Natural root canal!
I then stopped in Highland Park, NJ to meet
Martha for coffee and chats. I stayed so long that Neil showed up from work, and we talked a little while before I finally got on the road, driving through the light snow past the Catskills and crawling into bed late.
Then party year keeps rolling along. Peep this: Four straight nights of going out, handstamps on top of handstamps.
After spending all day Thursday defcon-planning for President Tiger's apology, Rosemary and I went to the
Creative Cocktail Hour at Real Art Ways, where we took in the latest exhibit "
Rockstone and Bootheel" and were treated to the awesome
Burlesque Nouveau. Highlights: Host Bastard Keith hitting on the audience (and me heckling him about Philly); Nikki le Villain dressed as absinthe's green fairy; Lady Amy La Vamp showing why soapy boobs always win; Ruby Solitaire packing heat;
Madame Rosebud getting masochistic with a bouquet.
Friday I spent all day listening to President Tiger apologize, and then somehow gathered the strength to attend the
CT RollerGirls' Mardi Gras fund-raiser in Hartford. I could barely stand when I tried to put my clothes on, but I couldn't turn down a good party after being egged on by Julia,
lormagins and some other friends. I'm so glad I went, too! I met a kick-ass good-time group of roller derby girls, danced my ass off, and made silly. Julia and I had some seriously dramatic dancing, complete with pose-downs.
Saturday night we hung out with Mike and Virginia, who is ready to give birth any moment now! We had a protein-and-carbs binge at Five Guys before playing Super Mario Bros. Wii, watching a bunch of Winter Olympics and drinking Mike's strong cocktails. Oh yeah.
Sunday we returned to the Red Light Burlesque & Variety Show in New Haven, site of the
infamous bad magician and drugged-out assistant.
Ruby Solitaire was there, great to see her again.
Madame Jynx made her burlesque debut, and was pretty darn good. For me the best was
Kitty Katastrophe, who had the right mix of dirty and cute - with "Gilligan's Island" and "Jailhouse Rock" routines. Rosemary was grossed out by
The Human Floor, a pain slut of a man who turned his pain resistance into a sideshow act of being sandwiched between beds of nails with women sitting on him, people throwing darts into his belly and stapling money to his head. And then my eardrums were blown out (in a good way) by rockabilly outfit
Soul Reapin' 3. Julia came with us and slept over after we were up until 3 a.m. eating gross food and watching David Bowie videos. After some ice cream at A.C. Petersen, Julia headed on her way home.
These past few days have dedicated to SLEEP and nothing. No more partying on the horizon for at least a week, but we'll see whether I can hold out. At the very least, roller derby is next week, and I might have a night in New York to do.
*I'm not big on buying flowers. I rarely buy them, despite how much women love them. I've gotten Rosemary flowers about four times in our nearly six years together. Obviously, it's not a deal-breaker for her. Yet. But keep reading above what I did do, and maybe this makes up for it.
