Making a quick trip to Philly on Thursday and Friday, back to CT on Saturday. I definitely need some family time and Rosemary time, to see some familiar places and chill out somewhere that isn't Bristol.
My mom's taking off tomorrow, I think, so I'll get to see her a lot more than I thought. Of course, my parents will want me to take them somewhere. Probably back to Lowe's, where I now know where everything is. (Do you know how hard it is to know where stuff in a Lowe's is? It must take about 37 trips to figure it out.)
I'm kinda done packing already. The weather looks like it will be sunny and nice, unlike the past two days.
Tomorrow night I'll get to see
abinka before she leaves for California in her benefit for the Rosenbach Library.
Otherwise, not much else going on beyond spending much-needed time with Rosemary. Maybe we'll see "Observe and Report" or "Monsters vs. Aliens." Likely we'll just fall asleep in front of "The Office."
I want to go to the memorial for Harry Kalas on Saturday, but it starts when I need to be on the road for work. Maybe I could go in the morning. Know how big Kalas was in Philly? I talked to my dad today, and he did an AAAYND-IT'S-OUDDA-HEEYEERE when we talked about his death. And talking about Kalas made me tear up again today. And I teared up watching ESPN's coverage of Kalas' life and hearing John Kruk's voice break talking about the man.
I always raged at work that ESPN's spat with Comcast prevented them from bringing in home broadcasts of the Phillies, so I never got to hear Kalas. Now I'll never hear him call another game. When I go see the boys play in a couple of weeks, it won't be the same now.
I'll always hold on to the memory of seeing Kalas at the World Series celebration, ushering us through the ceremony as he was, the right reverend of the Phillies.
"On behalf of the entire Phillies organization, thank you. I love you. We all love you," he said that warm Halloween day. And you just knew he did.
