Weekend time machine

Friday Rosemary took the day off, so we spent the afternoon at the gym. I tried this incline elliptical machine, which wasn't big on cardio but kills the legs. Early evening we went to Delilah's with my high school friend Nick. Surprisingly, there weren't many people there at Friday happy hour. We saw some great dancers, though, and made some new friends ;)

Saturday and Sunday was a lot of family time, and eating. We walked Trixie, who loves to take off down the street at full speed any chance she gets. Rosemary's mom made the free turkey Rosemary got from the Acme back at Thanksgiving, and it was good. Never mind that I was still full from all-you-can-eat pancakes at IHOP ... whoa. That night we watched a lot of "Arrested Development" and slept early.

I wanted to watch the NFL playoff games with my dad, so Sunday we headed over to my parents' house ... after eating at Five Guys. This time they did pile on the fries as usual, so I was happy. My mom made meatloaf (ate so much beef that day!), mac and cheese, stuffing, etc. as my dad and I watched the games. I also brought a stack of comics to put back with my greater library, and took others out for the trip back to CT.

With the Giants playing the Packers that night, I saw a lot of Giants fans out; I complimented some girl on her Kerry Collins jersey - the last Giants Super Bowl team. Guess wearing it worked. I can't quite say "Go Giants," even though I have liked the Giants since the Parcells days, but I'd love to see them take down the joyless-pursuit-of-perfection Patriots. I like rooting for underdogs, as any Philadelphian does. Plus Eli Manning's don't-give-a-shit football attitude is bewildering ... and working.

This weekend was about as good as it gets. It also was like a time machine: spending a whole weekend with Rosemary and doing all the kinds of things we used to do before I moved away, such as going to the gym, shopping at Acme, lazing about in the afternoon. It felt more like 2004 than 2008. And I got to see both of my parents for a whole day, which is tough when I'm here during the week and my mom's at work.

OK, it's time to get ready for the day. I think I'll go see my grandmother.
