Hey, I got scam mail today

I got mail at work from the Cambridge Who's Who Among Executives and Professionals. First, I was thinking, "Who the hell are these people?" and "I haven't done anything worth being in a who's who of anything."

It's a scam, right? Of course it is.

I looked it up on Google, and found story after story of this group trying to lull you in with the "free" rate of being included in the publication, and then hard-sell tactics for you to drop $800-$1,000 for access to their who's-who database.

Oooh, social networking. Because a guy who went to Harvard and Syracuse is totally lacking in access to contacts.

It even has an obvious computer signature from an "M. Foster" claiming to be editor in chief. Seriously, the editor in chief of such an esteemed publication wouldn't even list their first name? Schyeah, right.

So if you ever get one of these letters from a who's who of pretty much any kind, you're likely better off just throwing it into the trash. Or keeping it to laugh at on your blog.
