Work work work, that's all it's been since I got back from New York. But for once it went to my advantage, as I did Black Friday for the first time ever. I figured, if I'm already at work until 2:30 in the morning, what is it to stay up a few more hours? I started at Kohl's in Plainville next door, which opened at 4. There already were about 200 people lined up, but I got to what I wanted quick enough. I missed out on the memory foam mattress topper, but I did get a good deal on a down mattress pad instead. And I found a few Christmas presents for Rosemary (and man, she's gonna love 'em). Waiting in line to pay took up most of my time, and I was there until 5:30!
I then shot over to Target in West Hartford - SHEER PANDEMONIUM over some HDTV deals, as was Best Buy. It was crazy, the aisles packed with shopping carts, people lined up and shouting. I was looking at digital cameras, and found some great deals on the 7- and 8-megapixel Sony CyberShots, but didn't feel like buying one. Went to a diner for some pancakes, and got in bed - after putting on the new mattress pad.
After six days at working nights, it's nice to be home on a day off. Not that I've done much with it. I woke up when I felt like it, visited the post office, and watched a bunch of "Heroes" and on DVR.
Also watched last night's "Dancing with the Stars" final, which was totally lackluster. The semifinal last week was excellent, and this week the first dances were good but incomplete, and the freestyles ranged from weird and old-hat (Marie Osmond) to disjointed and dull (Mel B). Only Helio's freestyle brought some things you should see (and some things that shouldn't, like that gold race suit), but even then I thought it was not as good as winning freestyles from the past. I hope Mel B wins, but it's anyone's race now; for all we know, Marie's Mormon masses may triumph. Feh.
They're really ramping up those commercials for "I Am Legend," aren't they? I'm intrigued to see how they adapted it. It looks totally different from the novella, apart from the basic premise. Chances are it's gonna suck, but I want to see it. I still haven't been to the movies yet, with "No Country for Old Men" and "American Gangster" out. Maybe Rosemary and I can check one of them out when I'm in town next week.
