It's getting warm now -- 80 degrees now and going up to 84 today -- to the point where it's now warm in my apartment. I'm gonna try to stick it out for as long as possible until I break down and start using the air conditioner. I cringe to see what my electric bill will be like one that starts, because up to now it's been a happy $35 every month.
Next week I'm buying the plane tickets for the trip out West in July; waiting any longer may make the prices rise. I have to call Southwest, because I am one roundtrip flight away from a free flight, and maybe I can finagle 'this into being two-for-one.
Going back to Philly next week throws a bit of a wrench into things, but I'll just have to not spend any money (besides gas, which could be considerable given certain trips Rosemary and I are planning, and seeing "28 Weeks Later") when I go back. Gotta buy my eye medicine today. I hate thinking about money, and things are going to be a bit tight for the next month or so. Will go back to eating myself out of house and home before grocery shopping again.
And no more shopping. Did a bit when home last time, and if I hadn't things wouldn't be as tight. But the other day I ended up going back to Kohl's because I had a $10 coupon. I figured I'd get another one of the polo shirts I bought last time for like $10 after the discount. But now they have buy one get one free, so I got a couple of polos for $30 ... and then with the coupon, just $20! Damn you, Kohl's!
Speaking of eating, the other day I made pancakes with my whole wheat recipe again, and then for dinner made a poor man's panini of grilled chicken breast, antipasto peppers, cheddar cheese on multigrain bread. Paired it with fresh asparagus with a little extra-virgin olive oil and sea salt.
Deeeeeelicious. I think I'll make the sandwich again today, since I got some more chicken breast in the fridge that I should eat before it goes bad.
Maybe I'll force myself back to the gym today. It's time to get back in there, especially now that I don't have to walk a half-hour just to get to it. I want to get myself into some very nice shape by the time Rosemary and I do the trip.
"Dancing with the Stars" this week was pretty wild. Now the show's down to the three best, who were obviously the best from the beginning: Laila, Apolo and Joey. I wasn't on the FatOne bandwagon for a while, but the dude's got skills, and stopped with the jokey antics. I was sad to see my girl Cheryl Burke go, but Eye-an Ziering sucked with his needy, insecure actor-y stiffness and his bolted-on grin. I want Laila to win, but I need much more fire and flash from her. The others bring tons of substance and then polish it off with tons of pizazz and flair.
Last week I got to watch the results show in HD at my parents' house, and wow I want that back. I love the show now, but to experience all that hotness in picture clarity so great it was like they're in my living room ... that's the best. I'm getting one of those TVs some day. That's all I thought about when watching Apolo and Julianne freak-dancing doing their cha cha cha. (When your song's main lyric is "Get up on this!" ... you gotta, uh, get up on it.)
Coming up in the adventures of the Young Rapscallion:
More movies -- Reviews of "Spider-Man 3"; getting "Casino Royale," "Children of Men" and "Pan's Labyrinth" from Columbia House; and what I've learned watching "Deadwood."
Music -- I've bought four CDs in the past week, from Amy Winehouse to Bjork.
Marriage -- My parents have brought it up, each one in distinct fashion.
Books -- I finished "I Am Legend," and picked up "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" again. Plus getting caught up on Esquire issues.
Memorial Day Weekend in Philly -- I am off Friday through Monday! Where the party at?
