So I was sitting at the computer all psyched to do an LJ post, and now I have no idea what to write about. Saturday was just action-packed, beginning with continental breakfast and bubble baths at the Penn's View Hotel. Man, that place is nice. A great birthday present.
Memories from
trishylicious and Steve's party are getting fuzzier and fuzzier, but it was great to see so many LJers there:
jackiemania (and hubby),
abinka,
robbynewwave, the elusive
deviathan (and meeting her man for the first time),
theoreticalgirl, and
meekay. It was also a reunion of sorts for a listserv I'm on, with a lot of folks who were on it before but had moved on, and a bunch of other folks known about town that I hadn't seen in a while.
It was hard to think that a week before, I was sitting in my Connecticut apartment trying to stave off loneliness with a bottle of ice wine. And now Sara's wishing my happy birthday withthe warm hug she always gives, and Maria gave me a Plain Parade button since I couldn't make their last show. It was just so good to be surrounded by good people again. That's something I don't get enough of in Connecticut -- only at work. A wek can change everything.
Highlights: Krysi's pointing dance; Sara's photos of her adorable twin nephews; giving Trishy my homemade present of a photo I took of her playing at a Philly Roller Girls match; drinking the keg of lager with Steve; pulling apart a roast chicken in a Crock-Pot -- with spoons! -- with Chris, resident chicken aficionado; chillin' with Trishy's boy; picking at an obnoxious Hot Topic girl. But nothing beat Rosemary sleeping and snoring loudly with her tongue out on the couch. She's lucky I didn't take a picture or shoot a video to put on YouTube.
We officially went to bed in the spare room around 3 a.m., and left the house around 8:15 to take SEPTA back to Rosemary's -- about 1 1/2 hours each way. After a grocery store run we took a nap, and then I did laundry and cleaned Misty's cage for Rosemary since she was a good sport to let us stay over at Trishy and Steve's rather than leave the party early to take SEPTA home. We zoned out some more watching "Strangers with Candy: The Movie," which had some funny parts but largely wasn't that good. The opening scenes of Jerri Blank in prison are worth it, though. Matthew Broderick is pretty funny in it too, and wifey Sarah Jessica Parker looks B-E-A-T. Seriously. She looks like she's 70 years old in this movie. Yet "The Simpsons" was surprisingly funnier than "Family Guy" -- even with the tired Ali G intro. And I watched the Eagles get embarrassed by the vastly superior Colts.
Monday I hung out with my dad, who was working on the bathroom skylight since his legs felt good enough for it. "Come take a walk with me," he said in that voice that means he's got something for me, but I don't know if it's good or bad. I get into the basement, and there's the photo printer I wanted! So my birthday/Christmas present is here; unfortunately, I can't use it until Rosemary brings it to my place in a few weeks. Maybe I'll freeze myself until then. I may test it here, since I can plug my camera or memory stick into it and print without a computer.
and then helped Rosemary watch the two boys she baby-sits. Those guys ran up and hugged me so hard when they saw me! I had a very good time with the older boy, playing "Hulk" on Xbox. That's a fun game, man; nothing like smashing stuff as a big green monster to get you going. Mama D showed up in the last hour, and the two of us did what we do best: making fun of Rosemary.
I don't really feel like going anywhere today. I'm broke, so the only thing I'd do right now is go hang out with my dad at my parents' house. I think I'll do that, since I may get to see my mom later before I meet some Tribune folks for drinks at Tritone.
I'm just hanging on until tomorrow, when I get paid. I am so totally broke right now, as an unforeseen expense drained the funds. Rosemary and I have plans to see "The Fountain" with Mason and Megan, should be fun.
And wow, this post turned out long!
