Good night, Coretta.

Feb 01, 2006 22:41

Yesterday I got into work around 7 a.m. and started checking the wires.

I see a slug -- the shop-talk word journalists use for story titles:

OBIT-KING

Oh no, I think. Oh no.

I click on the story. Coretta is gone.

And how sad she goes now, the King Center in disrepair and disarray, the family fighting -- publicly -- about its future.

And so I reported the news of her passing from this world.

Coretta Scott King, civil rights leader and widow of Martin Luther King Jr., dies at 78

How awful that the same day I have to hear about how the Senate has confirmed Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court.

Ugh.

news, politics, death
