NaNoWriMo (again; subject lines are apparently my downfall today)

Finished NaNoWriMo Sunday night after a long writing binge. May or may not have cheated just a tad by working on something that wasn't my novel--totally exhausted and brain-fried, I knew I could get the words way easier if I worked on a Conqueror Worm short story, so that I did. It's called "Tori and the Prize Punch," and I can't figure out if it's really bad or just really bizarre. Could very well be both.

Anyway, 42K of my NaNo win was STRANGE MAGICK, which is actually more than I figured. (When calculating a draft/revision schedule for SM, I figured I'd get about 40K in November. Gave myself a 10K buffer for short fiction breaks. Turns out I only needed 8K of it. Hooray.

My pirate cat is determined to steal the pen out from behind my ear and then throw herself on top of my keyboard so I will pay attention to her. It's driving me nuts, but really really cute.

Anyway, STRANGE MAGICK is going okay. I've got just under 40K left to write (goal for this book is 75-80K), which I'll take slower than this past month. I've determined that a thousand words a day is the most I can do most days before quality and/or time becomes a real issue. And quality was becoming kind of an issue for SM, though obviously that's not supposed to be a concern for NaNoWriMo.

Honestly? This month was kind of exciting, because it was the first one in a long time that I really worried about making the requisite word count. I had started to get a little complacent, which obviously is a bad bad thing.

Not complacent now. No sir.

Busy. Stressed out. Totally exhausted--but not complacent.

And victorious!

Now, off to work. Final papers are awesome (or something).
