NaNoWriMo -- Week 1 Recap

Nov 09, 2009 13:43

So, NaNoWriMo.

This year is not going as well as previous years, which makes me glad that I didn't attempt anything insane this November. A good, solid 50k is all I'm asking for. And right now, it looks like I have the chance to make it--barely.

So far, I'm only a little bit short of where I need to be by the end of today. I've worked on a myriad of projects this year, bending the rules a bit in order to work on a whole bunch of half-baked ideas that I wouldn't otherwise put time and energy into. So far, here's the list of what I've done:

1. Completed a rough draft of the (very) short story tentatively titled "Medusa."
2. Started another installment of the Veronica Miller Metamorphoses series, based on the Iphis and Ianthe myth.
3. Started two short stories I've had vaguely outlined for a while in the Conqueror Worm series, titled "How Tori Got Her Hat Back" and "Tori and the Prize Punch".
4. Re-started my stalled out novel, LET THE TABBY DROWSE, by changing the POV.
5. Started three short stories that are currently without actual titles, labelled (for know) "Heirloom," "Pestilence," and "Famine."
6. Started a Broadford/Dickinson story set in the Saw Horse tentatively titled "I Get a Kick Out of You."
7. Worked on a Wilhelmina Phipps story that is currently without a title or much of a plot.

Coming up, I hope to finish at least half of the abovementioned stories (LET THE TABBY DROWSE notwithstanding), and start the following:

1. A story based on the Kumiho myth
2. A holiday story about a contested gravestone
3. A Ligeia story about some of the other Lovelins (I'm thinking high gothic here, with plenty of underground tunnels, incest, and insanity).

The goal this month is just to get rough stuff down onto the page, so that I've got somewhere to go after the month is over. If I get them started, and include a rough idea of where I'm going next, I have a much better shot of finishing them.

Hope your NaNos are going well. Good luck in week two!
