Colds

So, I'm pretty much just killing time at Conner's apartment until it's time to go over to his grandparents' to watch the football game.

My annual cold-weather cold showed up early this year. Usually I have until at least mid-October before the sniffles move in, but here they are, just in time for fall. If past experience is anything to go by, I should be able to breathe through my nose again in time for my birthday next April.

Bought size three double pointed needles today at A.C. Moore and a pile of Halloween stickers because it is ALMOST HALLOWEEN, which is the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR (I want you to imagine Bing Crosby crooning that one). I ogled all the Halloween scrapbooking stuff, but I haven't gotten *that* domestic yet (though sometimes I'm really tempted...), so I wound up giving it a pass for now.

Am a little wigged out that, since playing around with lace patterns and size 0/1 needles, size 3 actually looks kind of big...either way, I'm starting on a pair of long fingerless gloves in a ridiculously beautiful yarn that looks like Bronte country. I'll try to post pictures, although so far the camera hasn't been able to capture the sheer gorgeousness of this yarn. I'll just have to wear them around a lot so people can see them in person.

Plied my first yarn yesterday, as well. I had some white unidentified wool spun up from a while ago, and over this week I spun up some green stuff I had laying around. In the roving, it looked kind of puke-green, but when I spun it up it took on a really pretty moss color, so I was pleasantly surprised. Now the green and the white are plied together and they look like some kind of delicious holiday candy. Also, fairly uniform size! Hooray for miracles!

Signed up for my GRE subject test. Have application information for 4 grad schools now (only <8 to go!). Settled on a direction for my senior thesis (gender and class within the Great House in Victorian sensation fiction, with an eye towards narrowing it down to lady's maids). Now I've just got to write or find a 25 page sample of my critical work to send off, and pump out some bad-ass statements of purpose.

That's a lot of work actually. I might cry.

Off to review new glove pattern. Goodbye!
