All right, end of semester check in. What have I gotten accomplished these last three months?
1) 4.0 semester, 3.96 cumulative g.p.a. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. Even better since that's counting all the math and science courses I took. Woohoo! Casey's not stupid!
2) Secured a faculty sponsor for the undergraduate research program. I'll apply in the spring, and with any luck the University will be paying me mucho mucho dinero to study gothic literature under my FIRST CHOICE PROFESSOR who also happens to be incredible. I'm really looking forward to this bit.
3) Will have an essay (well, I had to pick between two) nominated by my medieval professor for the Rosenberry award. It's some writing award thing, and he wants to nominate my final research paper. Good news, I think. Even if I don't win, I can say that I was nominated for something on my resume. I've got to do some revision in there and he'll submit it in February.
4) Starting prepping for the GRE's. Took my diagnostic test and got a 66.66%, mostly because I've completely forgotten everything there is to know about algebra. Luckily for me, my mother just happens to be an algebra teacher, so she's photocopying a bunch of the reteaching manuals for me.
On the other hand, I *did* manage to remember on the test that Sybaris was a Greek colony known for its wealth and luxury, so a "sybarite" had to be someone who enjoyed worldly pleasures. Hooray for not-quite-useless classical knowledge!
5) Still nothing published. Too much of a weiner to submit "Feast If You Can" ("next year," I tell myself, "odd numbered years are lucky for you"). Haven't touched HOUSE OF AUTUMN, even though there are a few minor things that need correcting. Like everything. But I swore that I was done revisions, so I shall content myself with sentence tweaking and general dissatisfaction.
That's about it. New Years resolutions will inevitably include the usual "keep your g.p.a. up," and "publish something, you stupid cow."
P.S. Father pointed out yesterday the irony of dating an Irishman and not knowing what a "Donnybrook" was. Bah Humbug.
P.P.S. Happy Holidays to you all out there! I hope to see you soon!
P.P.P.S. I mean that. I'm not doing winter session this year, so I'm going to be around like whoa. And for those of you in Newark, I will be visiting, so don't think you can escape me.
P.P.P.P.S. Lian, you could possibly escape me, because I probably won't be flying up to Michigan. But I'd like to see you anyway, before you go to Michigan, and whatnot.
P.P.P.P.P.S. Andrea, you could probably escape me too. But ditto what I said to Lian.
