The quick, simple answer to any question of religion or spirituality is "whatever your heart tells you is right." However, many people are confused with what Voodoo actually is. Even if you yourself are an expert in the subject your friends and family might not understand.

I'm not sure I agree completely that it would be an insult. Sure, if he's thinking of nothing but Zombie powder and casting curses then he's an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about. However if he had a true interest and had done some thorough research I don't see why he would either have to plunge in completely or else be considered insulting. That's no different than the Christian (....heh....Republican) attitude of "either you're with us or against us."

Unless of course (and I'm not trying to be an asshole saying this) there's reason to believe that poking around in West African religions might entice a malicious spirit to fly off the handle.

For the record King Dinosaur (his handle on Myspace and other message boards) asked the question tongue-in-cheek. Halloween's his favorite time of the year and it's just the kind of smart-ass response I'd expect from him. I don't think for one minute he has any plans to pick up some Mandrake.
