I love books and adore reading but haven't collected anything valuable other than some nice Lord of the Rings books. I pass on chick-lit but keep just about everything else.
As someone who had virtually everything she has worked for stolen I can understand where you're coming from. Difference was, my property was stolen by my family who (thankfully) had no idea how much the books were worth. (note to self: never ask family to store the entire contents of your house while you emigrate). Change the locks, definatly...and it might be worth considering putting the really valuable stuff in a safe deposit.
As for the holiday, book yourself some time away, somewhere with a shore and all inclusive food/drink. Take your laptop and a change of shorts and do as the mood takes you. That's what I see you doing. Talking from experience, SJM needs a couple of days to wind down into a holiday so try for 10/14 days if you can.

I have many thing worth a great deal... because I have always been into that, and heck the store I owned was all about that, so I have tons from the store....
I can't wait to take some time away... I want to be treated like a star... live the day just for the day.. with nothing to do and everything I want.. capable.... I am willing to spend... and for some odd reason... I have a feeling... I don't know why... but I do have a feeling... this will be my only chance....
