Holy SHIT...today's match at the World Cup...USA versus Algeria...
It was 0-0 for the first half, the second half...US needed just ONE goal to get to the top of their group and stay in the World Cup instead of going home in defeat...
England vs Slovania, England leading 1-0, so if the score stayed at 0-0, England and Slovania would advance, instead...
US was denied and denied over and over again...off-sides, hit the post, over the goal, bad location...
90 minutes, technically end of the game, still 0-0...
Four minutes of added time given, the game extends to 94 minutes of playtime...
At the 91 minute mark, one minute after extended time, the US punches in a goal.
It was...just, YES!
This was the first time I was cheering for a specific team, the US being my nation and all...the disappointment of being denied goal after goal, begging the ball to go in, wondering if it would end at 0-0...and then, WHOOSH!
US passes, goes for a goal...keeper blocks, ball is knocked out, another member comes up and just puts it right into the net at 91 minutes!
It was like...out of a movie!
I admit, I was jumping up and down, and even slid on the ground while cheering that the US made it to the top 16, and would continue on in the World Cup.
They scored, then held it...end result was 1-0, USA.
If there's a time I'm proud to be an American, it's now. After being frustrated at watching them try and fail over and over in their one set pattern of trying to take it down the middle where the Algeria defenders were all concentrated...watching goal after goal be denied...
Then finally, they start taking it down the sides, and put it in...
Outta a movie, I tell ya. But there was no rehearsal, no script...that was a REAL drama. Scored in overtime for the win...
