Playing in Photoshop
The result of when I get bored...I mess around with screencaps making backgrounds/wallpapers and icons.

One's an old one from DBZ...the rest are Detective Conan, which has been what I've gotten back into recently.

Goten Son from Dragonball Z. The expression on his face was too priceless to not use as an icon.
Heiji Hattori from Detective Conan (episode 191, I think). Seriously, that guy makes some of the best expressions.
Shinichi Kudou from Detective Conan (Magic File 2 OVA). Whether as Shinichi or Conan, he's famous for his half-moon expressions of disbelief. This was taken from a scene where Shinichi was trying to puzzle out how someone could have seen a dog through a wall, and Ran suggested that the guy was clairvoyant.

Shinichi Kudou from Detective Conan again...and again, from the Magic File 2 OVA. He's just thinking about the odd case.
Forget which episode this is from...Conan Edogawa, aka Shinichi Kudou. The other kids decided to play a "guess what someone is cooking for dinner" by looking at receipts, and stumble upon one where a guy is planning a murder with the items. So, at the end, Genta (one of the kids) decides they should play the game again in hopes of getting another case, and reads the following items off a receipt:
Mayonnaise, Sashimi, Cup Ramen
Not a pretty mental picture...I didn't put any words on the image. It sort of speaks for itself.
Conan again...he makes some nice exasperated expressions, too. Poor guy was really short as a kid, so he's always getting knocked down by others.
Don't remember what episode/manga chapter this was from...Conan, again. But, it was when Heiji and Kazuha decided to have a deduction showdown to decide on where to take Ran and Conan next in Osaka. At one point, Heiji started to let Kazuha win, but then couldn't contain himself when he figured out the mystery and explained it. Conan, who knew that Heiji was trying to let Kazuha win, was a tad confused by Heiji's sudden change of heart (even though it was his own words to Heiji in an earlier episode that was the cause of it "there's no winner or loser when it comes to deductions. There's only one truth").
Again, didn't add words because pictures speak louder. Like this one.
Whether 16/17 or 6/7 (there's a discrepancy of his age from the manga to the anime), Shinichi is able to look the part of a cute kid. This one's from chapter 653, the cover title. I love his expression in it, so I made it an icon. Needs an "oro", right?

The background (took me 1-2 hours):
Wee...I had to pull out my copy of the 4th movie to get the screencap...and that scene was a quick one, so I ended up pausing it and hitting the button for screencaps until I got the desired picture. Then, cleaned up the picture and imported it into a new 'canvas' in Photoshop, and worked on the background around the picture from scratch.
