Actually, I think it was a horse fly, but it was the biggest and damn ugliest bug I've ever seen!

It freak'n LANDED on my SHIN! I felt something and looked down and was like...
WTF IS THAT THING!? IT'S AS BIG AS MY THUMB!! OFF! OFFFFFF!!
Brushed it off. Then I squashed it cause it was a blood-sucker and those get no mercy from me. Plus, if it was some new mutant bug and they need to find out how I got some type of super-hero bug power from, they'd need SOME evidence.
Then looked it up online and found out that it matched the picture of a horsefly...except the picture I found didn't have a tiny stinger-like projection coming out of the back end. But the rest matched.

I think it might be a Robber Fly. Does anyone know if they live in the northeast US? All I've found is that they're diverse and nest all over the place. The only specific locations I've found is Texas and Arkansas.

When I went out to show the dead thing to dad later that night to help me identify it, it was GONE.

Prolly dragged off by some ants or something. Fast working creatures, then, seeing as the thing was an inch long. Then again, I did kill it in the midst of ant colonies since it was on our walkway.
