Ok, so I get back in from a barbecue at about 11 last night to find my laptop has crashed. this is a rare occurrence to say the least, so I turn it off and start it up again. I get an interesting error message about the machine being docked but there being no AC power present. I look at the power brick and sure enough its little green light is off. So I remove the Laptop from the docker, fetch the spare power brick and plug it straight into that. the moment I do the little green light goes off and the laptop decides there is no AC adapter.
GAH.
After a bit of experimentation I can confirm the following.
1. The power bricks are fine, given they can power up the non-laptopped docker without difficulty.
2. The laptop is happy to run on battery, until I'm out of battery and hence screwed.
3. removing all the user-removable bits of laptop does not help.
4. This is a motherboard replacement Job to fix.
To Sum up:
Yes, I'm angry.
Yes, I'm upset.
Yes, I have a service contract!
(but the bloody offices are shut on sundays.)
I'm now going to go and destroy something with extreme prejudice.
