The beginning of the end

5....4....3....2.......1...... Happy New Year!

I will lose 10 pounds ....

I will quit smoking .....

I will exercise more ......

Everyone resolves to be a better person but by February, we are eating gourmet cupcakes and buying new vape flavors.

Roughly 20 years ago, I really gave thought into all these broken promises and where they had gotten me.  My bank account was lighter from all the quick weight loss products and the scale was still over 200 pounds and I decided that joining yet another gym was a big waste of time.  I hate the gym and all the rude people who go there.  I made a list of things that really were important to me; not that being healthy wasn't but I resolved myself to the fact that I am a 50 pound overweight vegetarian. That was that.

I resolved in that new year, I would take my love of animals to a new level.  I made a conscious effort to only purchase "cruelty free" products.  This was just about the time that I met my now husband.

We just moved in together. To be perfectly honest, I took over his townhouse. One night, I was washing dishes and he comes in the door from work.  With his outstretched arm, he says, "here, I thought of you!"

"It is dish wash soap", I replied in a puzzled voice.

"but it is not P&G", he says.

I take the soap from him and  as he walks upstairs, say in a soft voice to myself," but it is Colgate Palmolive.  they still test on animals".

This was a true sign that my live in boyfriend loved me.  He was truly clueless to all this cruelty free, vegetarian, rescue animal stuff and this was a really big step for him. Reading product labels and making an effort to understand my dislike for Proctor and Gamble.

Every year following, I have made Resolutions that mean something and help the planet, its creatures and people in some way. I still to this day do not buy anything P&G and I cringe at work when I have to use the swiffer mop.
