Well, it turns out we did NOT go to Chicago on the aforementioned Thursday, on account of the fact that a young cousin (Jenessa, who was at our wedding as a flower girl) getting sick in an untimely manner. This created some small hassle with respect to the train tickets I'd purchased for my mom (which I still need to take to present for refund ...), but it turned out to be perhaps providential in that we were able to write an offer on said two-story house in Holt, MI, at the very moment another couple was said to be taking their second tour through the house. Turns out the offer was accepted that very afternoon (which it had better have been, seeing how it was written for the full asking price and couldn't be made stronger except by waiving the requirement for a home inspection), and we have talked to the loan officer who's to originate our mortgage, and we have an inspection scheduled for this coming Tuesday. I'm planning to take a camera to get some better pictures, so someone remind me to a) upload the pictures to Picasaweb, and b) post a link to the gallery on here!

We ended up going out to Sterling Heights last Thursday so we could visit with Uncle Ted and Aunt Renae anyway. It made for a rather late night, but I think it was time well spent, and I think Randi especially appreciated spending some time with her brother. Then to keep things fun, on Saturday we drove out to NW Indiana for an early Father's Day picnic with my dad and his wife and stepsons. We still haven't been back in touch for very long, and it's very weird for me to see the old guy (whom I hadn't remembered as looking old) with a step-family, but I'm told this sort of thing is getting to be quite routine for a growing number of Americans these days.

I am told that a couple of culprits (who shall for the moment remain nameless) are planning to abduct my wife during an upcoming weekend, during which time the plan is to spend some quality time together in Chicago. Too bad of course that I won't be able to come along, since it's been at least 12 years since I saw some of the major attractions such as the Museum of Science and Industry, but I'm sure I'll be able to find something to do, and heartily hope those involved have a good time!
