The telecomm is ringing.

Don't they know Trillian is out?

Four rings later, apparently they don't.

"Your turn," says a very small scientist -- Frankie-mouse, actually, who is in the middle of calculating.

"It is not," replies Benjy-mouse.

"The communicator does not answer itself."

"You can answer it."

"I am working."

"Well," counters Benjy-mouse, "I am attempting to sleep."

The phone keeps ringing.

And if mice can sigh, they do. Eventually, Benjy-mouse gets off the makeup box sponge he was using as a pillow and hops into a small cup, bites at the thread until it shoots him up toward the comm, and pushes the two-way call button.

"The professor is not in at present. Would you like to leave a message?"

Yes, even without Trillian, things do manage to go at least slightly smoothly.
