Done with book one. It was pretty terrible. Actually, more terrible than I had imagined so I'm glad I read it.
I'm impressed, though, with the execution of such a brilliant plan. Make your first book so awful that any subsequent book will HAVE to be better by comparison. Maybe that's why it "doesn't get really good until book 3" (which is what many people say). We'll see. I'm suffering my way through book 2 right now.
I'd do a more thorough review of specific reasons, but 1) I'm too tired right now and 2) criticizing a popular book seems to get some people's undies in a wad! So I'll avoid it for now...
