1. Take your OTP
2. List your personal canon for those characters. So the stuff that has nothing whatsoever to do with the books, but in your head is irrefutably what would have happened.
Alas, I have no OTP! Listing some random "personal canon" factoids instead.
(A) The Sorting Hat offered the Slytherin-Gryffindor choice to two others besides Harry: Albus Dumbledore (ever so much a borderline Slytherin) and Tom Riddle (heaps of courage, even if evil).
(B) Young Snape really was "part of a gang of Slytherins" - Harry just missed seeing the end of the Underpants Scene, when the gang of Slytherins rushed to Snape's rescue and hexed MWPP into the lake.
(C) Professor Binns actually died of heart failure after an over-intense sexual encounter with Tom Riddle. (Credit for this theory goes to
aegflota, one of the fandom's few proud Riddle/Binns shippers.)
(D) Albus Dumbledore is left-handed and Muggle-born. Aberforth is his younger brother, and a Slytherin. (Though I fully expect Deathly Hallows to out the Dumbledores as purebloods - possibly with a link to the Peverell family.)
(E) The exact number of Hogwarts students who have lost their virginity to Peeves the Poltergeist over the centuries isn't known, but it's believed to be quite high.
(F) The wizarding world's history books have been heavily censored to avoid stirring up confrontation with the Muggle world. Wendelin the Weird was really a resistance fighter who saved 47 incapacitated wizards and witches from being burned by Muggles, and rescued innocent Muggles from burning as well.
(G) Firenze will eventually teach Trelawney how to handle the Sight. She'll teach him to loosen up and enjoy sherry. They will ride off into the sunset together and live happily ever after.
