Freakin' hell, it's cold outside. We've now had 5 straight days with snow and/or ice falling at some point, and I don't think it's gotten warmer than 25 during that whole stretch. It's all of 13 right now, and the high tomorrow is 12. Low is -2 tomorrow night...damn. I'm SO ready for spring.
So Andrea is back. I flew down Saturday in what was certainly an interesting day of flying. My flight out of Evansville left late, which caused me to miss my Chicago-to-Dallas flight. Got on a later flight (which also left late) and then spent 2 hours at DFW because the third flight from Dallas to Killeen got delayed majorly due to fog. What a day.
Saturday night while in Texas, it was in the 60's and we had a thunderstorm roll through. We were within about 50 miles of a tornado watch. Funny thing is, earlier in the day, I was in Chicago, where it was 11 degrees with 2 inches of snow on the ground.
And then Sunday we drove back and ran into the ice storm that's swept east this week. Everything in Illinois was covered in ice, including the highways. So we got stuck in Mount Vernon, less than 2 hours from home...but couldn't get any further. Made an unexpected stay overnight there, then drove the rest of the way Monday morning. Very VERY long weekend...but it's nice to have her back in town.
Tonight, Amanda and I went to see Rent...what a fucking AWESOME show. I don't know that I'd rank it above Phantom, but probably on even ground. I loved it and I already look forward to seeing it again sometime down the line. Amazing show...
My dad lost his job. Meijer restructured its team leader hierarchy and his position got eliminated at all stores, so he was basically hung out to dry. He's not too down about it though...he was getting burned out working there, and he's happy to have a little paid time off. (Two weeks severence pay is nice.) He's already been offered a managerial job at Auto Zone, where he's been working part time for a while on the side. So he'll be fine...I think he was ready for a change anyway.
Work has been nuts lately. I've made the mistake of leading them to believe that I'm actually smart or something, so now they're piling the work on me. I currently have 24 active jobs on my list of projects, and I've only been there 2 months. By comparison, Vicky, our most efficient writer, has been there 5 years and only has 29 jobs - the most of anyone. I really need to stop working so damn hard...I just make more work for myself.
The next three weekends are going to be crazy. Big weekend for the Ice Eagles this weekend capped off by the Super Bowl, then next weekend is the conference tournament that will see me at the rink for about 24 hours in a 32 hour period. Weekend after that, I'm going to a Blues game Saturday with Andrea, then watching the Daytona 500 and the WWE PPV with Amanda on Sunday. I need a vacation...LOL.
But since a vacation is out of the question, I'm going to opt for sleep instead. So I'm off...everybody stay warm!
