Thought I'd drop by my own journal. I see from my previous post that I haven't been here in a few months.
I thought I'd share a few pictures of my mother, Bernadette Murphy. We lost her to breast cancer on August 2nd, 2008. She fought a long, courageous battle---she was a warrior in every sense of the word. I've been coming to grips with her loss these past few months. I've made sure to keep insanely busy---I didn't want to stop and think about mom's passing at all. At. All. My Dad came to Memphis to celebrate Christmas with us this year. My mission was to keep him distracted and busy. Busy, busy, busy! No time to think and be sad! He and I, and everyone else were exhausted by the end of the visit. Mission accomplished! But Dad is wise, and saw through my little scheme. Before leaving, he advised me to start taking some time to think about her---not to have a pity party---because she would've hated that----but to just stop and remember her. Dad is in a bereavement group in NY, where he lives, and has encouraged me to join a group here....he's found the group to be very helpful. I'm still thinking about it. Yesterday, for the first time, I slowed down and took some time to think about mom. I pulled out one of my photo albums and started looking through it with my daughter. I found that doing this didn't make us sad----on the contrary, it made us quite happy. I think its a baby step toward healing. Mom would be happy about that.
My mom was a cool lady. Enjoy the pictures!

That's her front and center.
