Coincidence. John/Rodney. G. 254 words. Established Relationship.

Coincidence

Rodney knew that John considered himself lucky that he had Rodney. The term "cosmic lottery" might have fallen at some point. Rodney teased John about it only a little bit because he loved him and because he was more than happy that John showed him every single day how grateful he was that he "won" Rodney.

Rodney was a scientist. Hew knew that what had happened to them was nothing but a random event occurring in a certain number of the infinite timelines co-existing as all possible outcomes to any given decision in the universe. There were statistics and probabilities, but in the end something that could happen would happen in at least one timeline. It was nothing but coincidence.

But still, there was the fact that two emotionally awkward--to put it mildly--men over forty, one having considered himself straight all his life and the other working for an institution that considered it progress when it replaced forbidding a relationship with members of the same sex with allowing it as long as nobody ever dare find out, managed to be in a happy relationship. They'd beaten the odds not just in that but skirting death, reassignment, other women and one other man to end up together against all probability.

That didn't make it any less of a coincidence and Rodney knew that. But in that moment, when he'd looked into John's eyes and leaned forward he hadn't thought about how unlikely, how statistically improbable it was. He'd only thought that it couldn't have been any other way.
