Actually I’m in a blind panic right now because I thought of something that makes everything work much better, but it means I have rewrite almost everything. Wish me luck?
How has that been going for you? I can draw animal / plants etc, and I can draw something from a photo or real life ok, but I really struggle with making humans recognizable. As specific people, that is, not as humans - I can manage that much. :)
I recently picked up a couple of books of nudes to work from to see if that'll help me too...
Well... it's going. I have trouble keeping everything in proportion, but I've had some things come out really well. I'm getting better though, and that's what matters.
As far as making people look different from each other, do profiles (looking at the person completely from the side so you only see one half of their face.) Then, focus on the lines. How is the slope of John's nose different from Rodney's? The shape of their chin? Their lips? Focus on one feature at a time rather than the whole face or person. Burdge-bug on Deviant art has some really great tutorials, if you're not looking for photo realism: http://burdge-bug.deviantart.com/gallery/#Art-Trades-and-Requests
I really, really loved your answers to 'why SGA?' and 'why McShep?'. You made me smile and realize how much richness there really is in a show that, despite how much I still love it, have nonetheless often dismissed as trivial. Thank you for making me look at it again. :)
My pleasure. I think the reason SGA attracts people is because, despite the plot occasionally getting silly, there's a depth to the show in the characters. I mean, if you're looking for groundbreaking stories, this really isn't the show for you, but the characters are all very human. I can't help but think of the line in W.H. Auden's Lullaby (in regards to Mcshep especially,)"Mortal, guilty, but to me / the entirely beautiful."
