Interview

1. What was your first fandom?

Star Wars, though I was tiny and I was more a fan of what I thought Star Wars should be about, rather than the actual movies. (In what would become a running theme of fannish involvement...) I thought it was the story of Luke and Leia, Jedi knight twins, fighting their way across a galaxy far far away. The first fandom I wrote fanfic for was Star Trek: The Next Generation, and my first internet fandom was X-Files.

2. How did you get into writing fanfic/creating fanart?

I always wanted to extend the things I loved and do more with the stories I'd been told. I was excited when I found out there was a name for that.

3. Is SGA your main squeeze, or are you poly-fandom-ous?

A few weeks ago I would've said it's nothing but SGA, but then I saw an incredibly slashy movie and got hit with the brick of X-Men: First Class fandom. 50,000+ co-written words of XMFC fic later, I guess I have to cop to being poly-fandom-ous.

4. What makes John and Rodney such an inspiring couple for you?

They're both such unusual, quirky people. I like their slightly antagonistic friendship, and I like to think about the different ways they could relate to each other if their relationship became more intimate.

5. Who's your favorite, John or Rodney (or both)? How come?

I started out completely into Rodney, and came to appreciate John. I still favor Rodney a little, but I've ended up writing from John's point of view a lot, because I identify with John's feelings for Rodney. And writing his perspective has made me really come to like John, over time.

6. Where can people find more of your work (McShep or otherwise)?

I'm gradually getting everything up at the Archive of Our Own. Nearly all my SGA fic is there now.

7. Pick a piece/story of yours that stands out for you. Give us links and tell us why!

My favorite John/Rodney story that I've done is probably Ride Into The Sun. I've written a lot of AU stuff with these characters, so it was challenging and different to tackle a canon story with action plot elements. It was written for kink_bingo, which is a challenge I really love, and I enjoyed incorporating the kink elements in a way that felt true to John's character.

8. Finish this sentence: John and Rodney walk into a bar...

...and John makes a bizarre face while Rodney demands to know who the hell put that bar there, that's a safety hazard, don't they realize people are trying to walk around here?!

9. What question do you wish we'd asked?

How awesome has Team Sheppard been this year? Answer: Very, very awesome. We have some amazing stories and art coming! I can't wait to see everything go live.
