A Hyperfocused Intro

Since you asked so nicely...

1. How long have you been writing fan fiction?

I wrote the occasional gen fic back in my old school Doctor Who days when I was in high school in the 1980s (I grew up in the Chicago area, which was sort of U.S Doctor Who central then.) While I've always been fannish, I didn't start writing fic in earnest until I discovered Smallville, and the epic love story of Clark and Lex. I posted my first slash in 2002, and am still 'hyperfocused' on it. In fact, that's why I use this name. I'd originally chosen it as an email name when I was researching my own suspected (and later diagnosed) Attention Deficit Disorder. Then, because I hyperfocus on fandom, I used it for that part of my life exclusively. Consequently, parents looking for info on their ADHD kids may find themselves staring at my fic. Oops?

2. Have you participated in any other fandoms? Many of them. My first fandom (at least in a collecting paraphernalia and being really into it way) was Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I was perhaps the only 11 year old who wanted to be an Exo-sociologist when she grew up. Pre-Internet I was very active in Doctor Who. I went through a Star Trek: The Next Generation phase (and there's about half of a probably very Mary Sue-ish novel I wrote and am glad to have lost on a crashed computer to go with it.). Then came stints with Sliders, X-files, Sports Night, Due South (both of which I rediscovered with slash goggles on). My slash fandoms have included (besides Stargate Atlantis and SG1, of course) Smallville, Sports Night, The Sentinel, The O.C, Everwood, Due South, Calvin and Hobbes, Bloom County, Rebel Without a Cause, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Harry Potter, House, Northern Exposure, Numb3rs, Sesame Street, Sorority Boys, The Grounding of Group 6, and Supernatural. I'm sure I have several more that I love, but haven't written yet (like Heroes, for instance.) I'm also inordinately fond of crossovers, at least when they're done believably. I was a poet long before I started writing fic, and I think it shows in my fiction as well.

3. What do you enjoy most about SGA and/or SGA fandom?
Though I've almost exclusively written McKay/Sheppard (with a foray into McKay/Sheppard/Dex), I love that it's truly an ensemble. I love that we have great writers who can convince me of the widest variety of pairings, and the oddest, most unlikely storylines. I love that David Hewlett is one of us, and it shows in his portrayal of Rodney. I love the whole idea of the show, that just about anything could have happened when they crossed that wormhole to the barely-known. I love that even when an episode is not-so-great, fic writers can find the good in it and expand it tenfold.

4. Why did you choose to join Team Angst/Team Romance?
While I do enjoy a good cry, and have written both sides of the angst/romance fence, my stuff tends towards the warm and somewhat fuzzy side. I'm a total 'Rift, What Rift' girl with regard to Smallville, and in general my other fandoms fic is likely to end hopefully, as well. I don't see romance as meaning "no strife", or no plot.

5. Where can interested readers find more of your work Well, probably most importantly to you all, my SGA Fic can be found here. There are about 25 of them, I think.
Plus, here's my Calvin and Hobbes (plus a little cameo) I did for Yuletide. It's probably my best known piece: Transmogrification

My other fic on LJ can be found in my memories, here.
