Interview (slightly late, oops)

1. Why did you decide to join the Match?
I got a free pass this year as I was asked to make the banners and icons, which I was thrilled to do. But I'd have signed on anyway as I've had a lot of fun taking part in the past 3 years. SGA's still my main fandom comfort place, where I feel most at home.

2. What's your favorite genre of fanfic (hurt/comfort, AU, angst, etc and why?)
I'm pretty eclectic so that's a hard question for me. I love long plotty stories with plenty of sex and romance, and humour, ideally with a heroic journey combined with a romantic arc. But I guess I really love AUs and especially, well done crossovers or fusions - but especially crossovers as they're harder. One of the very best examples is And All the World Beneath by Seperis. Some of the best fanfic fuses an AU plot together with marvellously clever or playful strands from canon - making a story that at first glance is hugely divergent from canon but has loads of clever references and links. And if that can be done with snark and great characterisation, it's enormously satisfying. To the degree that I hardly read any non-fanfic any more - the lack of references and clever allusions to a "canon" bores me.

3. What's the biggest surprise you've learned about fandom?
That it exists and that it's so right for me. I had no idea the world of fanfic and fanart and fanvids and podfic etc. even existed - I discovered it pretty late and immediately fell in love. Also amazed that my love of all things fan-related has been lasting. Carson can keep his stuff - this is the good drugs.

4. Why John and Rodney?
Hotness and snarkiness and brilliance and goofiness. And their complexities and backstories. I like that they're so distinctive as characters - it's one reason SGA has so many AUs, I think. Plus, like, I suspect, plenty of others, I kind of want to be Rodney and to end up having John.

5. Tell me more about your fannish endeavours. Where can we find more of your work?
It's all on AO3. The art's all tagged as "digital art" and the stories as "fanfiction". And the podfic...you get the drift.

6. What's the strangest/most interesting thing that's inspired one of your works?
This is interesting more than strange, and doubtless well known to everyone. I love Joe Flanigan's tweet about how he'd rewrite the ending of SGA: "Ronin and I steal a puddle jumper, pack it with beer, duct tape McKay in the back (tech support) and set up a new series: WraithHunter". It inspired several of us to write "WraithHunter" post-series stories. Mine's here: Intelligence Received

7. Just how Cool are you?
Aw, shucks. *Rubs back of neck awkwardly. Tips of ears flush.*
Oh no, wait - that's Sheppard, not me!
I'm very cool indeed, as it's winter here and the middle of a cold, damp night.
