So xanax-n-wine alerted me that Deryck Whibley, the lead singer for Sum 41, was hospitalized for pneumonia. I checked it out this morning, and he is back and they are definitely playing tonight next to My Chem tonight.
This concert is not a normal MCR show; it's a free concert in Valencia, outside an Arts and Sciences museum, and is being put on by MTV. Sum 41 and two other groups are also performing, and it will be broadcast later in the month.
The twitter report is that it is raining there.
The yek/nathy/anna discussion last night re: setlist at a show such as this can be summed up with this:
-16 or 17 songs, much like the radio show December concerts
-They tended to not play Ghost, Kids, Destroya, or Teenagers in those shorter Dec shows, but they did play Desolation Row a lot, and they played Vampire Money only sometimes, and they of course weren't playing BPH yet.
-Also, there was one song fewer amongst those slots for older songs like Give Em Hell and Hang Em High.
-And of course, there were no Bullets songs. That got their set list down to 16 or so.
There was some disagreement amongst the three of us over whether those song cuts would be applicable here, three months later, in an foreign venue. Personally? I think we've seen Teenagers is a huge crowd pleaser internationally, and I think they will play it tonight. They will for sure play BPH, so what else will have to go??? The covers, Ghost, Kids, one older Revenge/TBP song slot...Personally, I think they should cut Vampire Money if they play Teenagers b/c of the rock and roll similarity of the songs, and I think they'll want to play Destroya. [shrug] WHO KNOWS.
And the older songs that get in? FLW (that one has been a lock recently, right?), and Give 'Em Hell OR Hang 'Em High OR Wolves. This will be televised and they will not do things they haven't been playing nightly. We won't see new songs; we won't see Venom or Prison. :(
But we will them BRINGING IT, GAME ON, as it's for MTV. I tweeted some Valencia concert goers, so we'll see if we get any reports or not! Let's see if my analysis holds or if I will crash and burn!
I think they might play Venom (they've been playing it during the last shows, so it's very possible). If not...probably Hang 'em High, because it's the one they've been leaving out the least of times (and they mentioned it as one of the songs they enjoy playing). I wish they played Prison but...if we didn't get it for normal shows...:/ I think Vampire Money will be in, Teenagers probably too, not so sure about DESTROYA (they'd already played it in Europe last year and the same they left it out for radio shows).
And yeah, it'll definitely be a very fun show to see, and Gerard tends to get hilarious when a show will be on TV. xD
